On Friday, the Pennsylvania State Police stated that the 28-year-old had been apprehended on a fugitive from a justice warrant. Officials said they were working with the FBI, the Idaho State Police, and the Moscow Police Department to apprehend the suspect.

On Friday, Kohberger was brought before a judge in Pennsylvania and remanded without bond to the Monroe County Correctional Facility until his extradition to Idaho, according to the police.

At a press conference on Friday, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson revealed that Kohberger had been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and criminal burglary.

He earned an A.A. in psychology from Northampton Community College in 2018 and will finish his B.A. in the same field from DeSales University in 2020. Chancellor of WSU Pullman and WSU Provost Elizabeth Chilton expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in solving the crime.

“This awful event rattles up everyone in the Palouse area.” According to the Associated Press, another graduate student in the WSU department of criminology and criminal justice described the news of Kohberger’s arrest as coming “quite out of the left field.”

Ben Roberts noted that he and Kohberger started the program together in August and that after that time, he took many classes from Kohberger. “Kohberger was always looking for a way to fit in,” Roberts said to the AP.

Friday’s news conference revealed a reluctance among officials to discuss specifics of the inquiry, especially the circumstances surrounding Kohberger’s detention. According to Fry, following Idaho law necessitates keeping the information secret to protect the confidentiality of the investigations.

The police chief claimed that some of the 19,000 tips received were crucial to the arrest of Kohberger, but he would not comment on when or why Kohberger became a suspect. CBS News cites law enforcement sources saying that forensic evidence connects Kohberger to an Idaho crime scene.

According to CBS News’s sources, FBI agents had been keeping tabs on Kohberger’s whereabouts in Pennsylvania in the days following his arrest. According to Fry, the days preceding Kohberger’s arrest were a “pretty sleepless couple.”

Fry added, “I have faith in those agencies around the nation, I have faith in our cops, and I have faith in the FBI, and they did a tremendous job.” Fry stated that a Hyundai Elantra was found, but the murder weapon had not been located.

Several weeks ago, investigators indicated that they were seeking the driver or drivers of a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra that was “in the area” when the students were slain.

Once Kohberger travels to Idaho and is served with an arrest warrant, a probable cause affidavit will be released, and further details will become public, including the foundation for the accusations that were filed. On Tuesday afternoon, Kohberger will likely return to a courtroom in Pennsylvania.
