After lawfully procrastinating for several years, BTS member j-hope is joining the South Korean military for his required service.
“We would like to inform our fans that j-hope has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement,” the group’s label, BIGHIT MUSIC, said in the statement on Sunday.
“We ask for your continued love and support for j-hope until he completes his military service and safely returns,” they continued.
According to CNN, by the time they are 28, almost all physically fit men in Korea must serve for at least 18 months in the military. Men sometimes have the option to wait till they are older, as demonstrated by some members of BTS.
The second member of the popular group to sign up for conscription is J-Hope. The eldest member of the gang, Jin, declared his intention to enlist two months ago.
According to CNN, Big Hit earlier declared that all seven members of BTS would complete their required military service.
BTS announced to PEOPLE last year that as they started their “new chapter” together, the band members planned to release group and solo projects.
The declaration was made following an apparent breakup announcement by RM, Jungkook, J-hope, Jin, V, Jimin, and Suga during the group’s annual FESTA dinner in June.
“The group will remain active as a team while taking individual journeys to achieve personal growth further,” the release said from HYBE, the agency that represents BTS, said, adding that the members of the two-time Grammy-nominated group “will allow themselves to express their individuality through the release of solo albums and collaborations with other artists.”
At the moment, BIGHIT MUSIC, the parent company of HYBE, stated, “With new solo and group endeavors, BTS is starting a new chapter.
Members will use this time to grow personally through various new activities. We anticipate that this will further solidify the groundwork for the group’s long-term success as a unit. The musicians will receive active backing from BIGHIT MUSIC.”
To be clear, They are not on hiatus but will take some time to consider specific solo projects and remain active in several different media, a group representative added to Pitchfork.
