A similar incident involving high-profile celebrities has come to light days after US artist Post Malone was refused admittance into a rooftop pub in Perth, Australia, due to his tattoos.
According to the New York Post, famous actor Russell Crowe and his girlfriend Britney Theriot were refused service at a restaurant in Australia because they didn’t adhere to the “smart casual” dress code. The pair then had lunch at a different neighboring restaurant.
The event happened after a tennis match when the pair went to Melbourne’s Mr. Miyagi fusion restaurant for a “quick piece to eat.” Mr. Crowe was sporting a Ralph Lauren polo shirt, and Ms. Theriot was wearing her tennis skirt as they were playing tennis. They were turned away by the restaurant employees when they noticed their outfits.
Notably, the establishment declared itself to be “casual yet classy” and prohibited the wearing of “work gear, sportswear, singlets, and thongs (flip-flops).” The two were dressed in “slobby gym clothing,” owner Kristian Klein told the Daily Herald.
‘We treat everyone the same. It doesn’t matter who you are or if you are Russell Crowe. We’ve got a dress code that we push across every level,’ Mr. Klein told The Herald Sun on Friday.
Said he, “We’re not attempting to impart any fashion advice. But I can speak for myself when I say I won’t try to go to a fine restaurant if I wear thongs and board shorts because I won’t be suitably dressed.” The proprietor also claimed that the employee who denied the couple service didn’t know the “Gladiator” star.
Eventually, the restaurant made a joke out of the incident and posted it on Instagram. The sign stated, “Wear smart casual unless you’re Russell Crowe, in which case wear whatevs.”

The eatery also remarked on Mr. Crowe’s visit and expressed their desire to have him return.
