Rep. George Santos Denies Performing as a Drag Queen!

Rep. George Santos, a Republican in trouble, didn’t dispute the truth of a photo that seemed to show him in drag. However, he denied claims that he was a “drag queen in Brazil.” “No, I didn’t work as a drag queen in Brazil. When I was young, I went to a festival and had fun.

“Sue me for having a life,” the New York lawmaker told reporters at LaGuardia Airport. His first public response to reports came out earlier this week. Reporters also tried to ask Santos about the false claim that his mother was in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, but he wouldn’t answer.

The congressman, who is openly gay, was found out by a Brazilian drag performer who posted a picture of herself with another drag performer she said was Santos at a parade near Rio de Janeiro in 2008.

Before, Santos had said on Twitter that he didn’t “perform as a drag queen.” He wrote on Twitter on Thursday, “the most recent obsession from the media claiming that I am a drag Queen or ‘performed’ as a drag Queen is categorically false.”

This new accusation comes when Santos, who represents New York’s 3rd District, has been scrutinized for lying about his education, work, and family history. For example, he said his mother was in the World Trade Center when the terrorist attacks happened in 2001.

On Saturday, Santos didn’t answer any questions about where his mother was on September 11. Instead, he took his anger out on the press. “I don’t have any jokes for you right now. Right now, I’m focused on serving the American people, and I’m very excited about it,” Santos told reporters.

He added that he had talked to “plenty” of constituents and was returning to his district from Washington, DC, where he had attended a meeting Friday night. He wouldn’t say who he met with because it was “classified.”

As reporters kept asking where his mother was on September 11, Santos repeatedly criticized and complained. Even though he said she was in the South Tower when the terrorist attacks happened, her immigration records show that she was not in the US then.

He wouldn’t say anything about his debated committee assignments and didn’t answer when asked if he had talked to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. CNN said this week that Santos was chosen to serve on two low-level House committees: the Committee on Small Business and Science, Space, and Technology.

CNN has said that Santos privately asked GOP leaders if he could serve on two more high-profile committees, one that oversaw the financial sector and another that dealt with foreign policy. However, top Republicans turned him down because some chairmen didn’t want him on their panels.
