Man Accused of Shooting Scottsdale Police Officer Arrested In Tempe!

Man Accused of Shooting Scottsdale Police Officer Arrested: The man accused of shooting a Scottsdale police sergeant in downtown Phoenix has died, according to authorities. An officer hit him in a separate shooting on Saturday.

The Tempe Police Department said in a press release on Sunday that 37-year-old Kenneth Hearne died at the hospital, where he was taken after the shooting. Authorities say Hearne shot the sergeant around 7 p.m. at an apartment complex near First Avenue and Roosevelt Street as the Scottsdale Police Department was carrying out a search warrant.

Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther told reporters Friday night that the sergeant was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. On Saturday afternoon, Scottsdale police said that the sergeant is doing very well and is expected to improve.

Hearne was arrested near Baseline Road and Lakeshore Drive, and the Phoenix Police Department tweeted before 6 p.m. Saturday that he was taken to a hospital. Scottsdale police say the suspect started shooting at detectives through a wall in the apartment after a woman and a child were taken out of the home.

According to Walther, a bullet hit the sergeant in the lower abdomen, and another detective fired back, but Hearne is said to have jumped off a second-floor balcony and run away. The Scottsdale Police Department said the sergeant was let out of the hospital on Sunday and returned home to continue healing.

Hearne was thought to be dangerous and armed, the authorities said. Around 8 p.m. on Friday, Phoenix Vice Mayor Yassamin Ansari told people to stay away from Roosevelt Row and its neighborhoods. This was because the incident happened during First Friday, a popular event in the area.

The Roosevelt Street/Central Avenue station was skipped by Valley Metro trains for a short time, but standard light rail service started again at 9:30 p.m. Please forward this to your friends if you find it interesting. Visit Lighthousejournal.org for the most recent celebrity news and updates.
