Hoda Kotb Absence From ‘Today’ Show Explained On Air: ‘Hoda’s Ok’!

Craig Melvin has assured viewers that his “Today” colleague, Hoda Kotb, is “OK” amid mounting concern over her prolonged absence from the morning program.

On Wednesday morning, Melvin said that Kotb had been away attending to “a family health problem.” Since February 17, the acclaimed “Today” co-anchor hasn’t made a live appearance.

“We know a lot of you have been wondering how she’s doing,” Melvin said while co-anchoring “Today” opposite Sheinelle Jones and Al Roker.

The adored “Today” host, mother, and breast cancer survivor vanished mysteriously before Wednesday’s broadcast, leaving worried viewers to wonder about her safety.

During Kotb’s absence, “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and “Today With Hoda & Jenna” co-host Jenna Bush Hager have been filling in for Kotb alongside Melvin, Jones, Tom Llamas, Willie Geist, and other NBC News reporters.

Guthrie, who unexpectedly left the program and tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, was also absent from the broadcast on Wednesday. The seasoned broadcaster has previously contracted the respiratory ailment twice despite being immunized and supplemented.

“We wish our friend a speedy recovery,” Melvin said Wednesday morning. “We look forward to seeing Hoda and Savannah back at the desk very soon.”
