Girls Trip 2, the long-awaited sequel to the popular Girls Trip, is finally happening. Writer and producer Tracy Oliver have confirmed that the girls will get together again for another fun trip. This time, they will go to Ghana, which is in West Africa.
Oliver shared this exciting news at the Sundance Film Festival, where she is promoting the second season of her Prime Video comedy show Harlem, which will be back next month. Oliver told Variety Studio, presented by Audible, that she had “a definitive ‘Girls Trip 2’ update” and then confirmed that the sequel is “officially happening, I can say that.”
The First Wives Club writer also said that the entire star-studded cast from the first movie would be back for the sequel. “No one else knows this, Will Packer (original film’s producer) might kill me, but we’re looking to set it in Ghana,” she said.
Even though it seems like solid plans are in place for the long-awaited sequel, Oliver said there was still no set date, and she was still writing the script. She also said that the movie’s stars would use this year’s Afrochella, an annual music festival in Ghana similar to Coachella, to get to know Accra, the country’s capital, before filming begins.

Fans started asking for a sequel as soon as it came out in theatres in 2017, and director Malcolm D. Lee listened, saying in 2018 that he would love to make a sequel to make everyone happy. In early 2022, when Packer was on Good Morning America, he confirmed that a sequel was in the works.
He told GMA’s Michael Strahan, “I think that the time is right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway.” The first movie was a massive success at the box office and with critics.

It made $140.9 million on a budget of $19 million, which is fantastic for an R-rated comedy. Girls Trip is about a group of four friends called the Flossy Posse, a name they got when they were in college. Check out the original movie’s trailer below:
