Baretta Actor Robert Blake Has Died At 89!

According to Delinah Blake Hurwitz, Robert Blake, a well-known actor and Emmy winner who played in the crime drama “Baretta,” has passed away. He was 89.

Delinah Blake Hurwitz told CNN in an email that her father died “peacefully” on Thursday “surrounded by family.”

According to his niece Noreen Austin, who issued an obituary notice via a publicist, Robert Blake passed away in Los Angeles from heart disease.

Robert Blake accumulated a lot of outstanding credits during his more than 60 years as a working actor, including the 1967 film “In Cold Blood” and David Lynch’s 1997 movie “Lost Highway,” which served as the actor’s last on-screen credit.

Bonny Lee Bakley, Robert Blake’s second wife, was found dead in the San Fernando Valley in 2001. The actor was cleared of murder charges associated with the crime in 2005. Afterward, he was defeated in a civil lawsuit filed by Bakley’s children.

Robert Blake, born on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey, used to go by the name Michael Gubitosi until 1942. He made his acting debut in Hollywood as a young child in the 1939 “Our Gang” film shorts as Mickey, one of the Little Rascals, and went on to play Bobby Blake in further “Our Gang” movies into the early 1940s.

He played Daniel “Mokey” Delano in the 1942 movie “Mokey,” about a problematic young kid adjusting to life at home with his father and stepmother. He co-starred with the renowned Humphrey Bogart in the 1948 film “Treasure of the Sierra Madre,” in which he appeared.

In Cold Blood, a 1967 movie based on Truman Capote’s 1965 book about the murder of a family in Holcomb, Kansas, Robert Blake played Perry.

Robert Blake eventually played the lead role in the television crime drama “Baretta” in the 1970s. He received an Emmy Award for his performance in the show as the title character, an undercover cop in New York City. The show aired on ABC from 1975 to 1978 for four seasons.
