A Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Died In A Car Accident Friday Morning!

On Sunday, Sheriff Chad Bianco of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a deputy injured in a crash early Friday morning had passed away from his wounds.

The accident occurred at 2:15 a.m. on Friday near the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and State Street in San Jacinto, and Hemet Sheriff’s Deputy Brett Harris was hurt.

Harris, 26, sustained severe injuries, including a “catastrophic brain injury,” as the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The Sheriff’s Office had confirmed that Harris was on his way to a call for support when the crash occurred, but no further details about the incident have been released.

While attempting to free Harris from the wreckage, a second deputy sustained a knee injury. The other vehicle’s driver, a 56-year-old woman from Hemet, also suffered moderate injuries.

What caused the accident and who was at fault are still mysteries. CHP officers are handling the investigation.

Harris was an organ donor, and the Sheriff’s Office said they were working with his family and the hospital to “ensure his wishes are honored.”
