Gangsta Boo Dies: American rapper Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, better known by her stage name Gangsta Boo (August 7, 1979 – January 1, 2023), was the second female member (after K-9) of the Memphis, Tennessee-based hip hop group Three 6 Mafia.
Months after the release of her second album, Both Worlds *69, in 2002, she parted ways with the group and the label over money and promotion concerns. After then, she dropped numerous solo albums and a couple of mixtapes with other artists including La Chat and Yelawolf.
Later in life, she worked with rap heavyweights like Eminem, Latto, GloRilla, and Run the Jewels. It has been said that Gangsta Boo was one of the first female southern rap artists.
Memphis Rapper Formerly With Three 6 Mafia, Gangsta Boo Dies At 43!
The New Year brought the untimely passing of Gangsta Boo, a rapper from Memphis and a former member of the prominent rap group Three 6 Mafia. Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, also known as Gangsta Boo, was found dead in a Memphis house on Sunday afternoon, according to police. At the time, she was 43 years old.
There were no indications of foul play, but the Memphis Police Department does not know what caused her death. Mitchell was found dead in a residence on Raines Road in the Whitehaven neighborhood shortly before 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to authorities.
The fatality investigation, police confirmed Monday afternoon, is ongoing. On Sunday afternoon, DJ Paul, a founding member of the famed Memphis rap group Three 6 Mafia, uploaded a photo of Gangsta Boo to his Instagram account, seemingly as an homage.
Gangsta Boo’s long musical career earned her the title “the Queen of Memphis” among her fans and friends. Mother Veronica Mitchell issued a statement calling her daughter’s death “untimely” and asking for privacy. What follows is the mother’s whole statement:

Echo Hattix, of Echoing Soundz, Gangsta Boo’s publicist, has dubbed her “a pioneer in female rap.” When Three 6 Mafia’s “Tear da Club Up ’97” became a smash hit, Gangsta Boo was featured on the track and became a household name. It is believed that she left the band some time in the early 2000s.
Her first solo effort, 1998’s Enquiring Minds, featured the Top 20 single “Where Dem Dollas At?!,” and peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list. Gangsta Boo has collaborated with a number of notable musicians during her career, including Eminem, OutKast, Gucci Mane, Run the Jewels, and fellow Memphis rappers GloRilla.

In addition, her publicist revealed that the rapper recorded a music video for the song “Imma Mack,” which will be on the next album “Welcome to My City, Vol. 4” by Memphis producer Drumma Boy. Drumma Boy said that Gangsta Boo is “a sister” in a statement.
