Kim Kardashian now owns a diamond cross pendant that Princess Diana used to wear. The reality star and business mogul won the auction at Sotheby’s. The amethyst pendant was thought to be worth between £80,000 and £120,000. Kardashian paid $163,800 GBP for it, which equals $202,492.18 USD.
The cross used to be part of the collection of the late Palestinian-British businessman and author Naim Attallah, CBE. Garrard, a company that makes jewelry, made the pendant in 1920. Sotheby’s says it was sold at auction along with other valuable items from Attallah’s Mayfair, London, apartment.
The pendant was given to Princess Diana by Garrard in 1987. Sotheby’s says that she wore it with a purple and black velvet dress to a fundraiser that Garrad held for Birthright, a charity that protects human rights during pregnancy and childbirth.
Garrard also made the Princess of Wales’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Attallah was the group chief executive of Asprey & Garrard, which changed its name to Garrard & Co. after he died in 2021. The company was the Royal Family’s Crown Jewellers until 2007.
This means that it took care of the family’s most valuable jewelry. Ramsay Attallah, who is Attallah’s son, said that Diana wore the amethyst pendant more than once. Diana was a good friend of Attallah’s, so when she died in 1997, he got the cross. Since then, no one has worn it.
