Ilya Fedorovich, a childhood friend and trainer who owns the fitness and supplement company Xeela, helped her lose 30 pounds in six months.

“He was doing a lot of really inspiring motivational transformations with other friends of ours, and he approached me and was like, ‘If you want to get into the best shape you’ve ever been in, let me know!”

Mariduena was prepared to take on the task because she had recently wrapped up filming a trip show for the Discovery Channel. She remembers her travels, “There were a lot of good foods and indulgences,” “I felt finally committed. I wanted to do it for myself.”

At first, Mariduena exercised at least five times per week. According to Mariduena, who just assumed leadership of YouTuber David Dobrik’s business, “One of my bigger goals was to run a 6:30 mile, which I’ve never done before, even in my soccer days,” “Outside of just weight loss, I wanted to set an actual fitness goal to push myself.”

She departed at 8:30 miles per hour. “I really had to cut my time, which meant a lot of sprints and practice to get my body prepared.” In the end, she reduced her time by over two minutes, coming close to her target.

She did weightlifting in addition to cardio exercises like running and boxing to develop muscle and acquire weight “so that everything looks lovely and toned.” For many people, Mariduena has long served as a body-positive role model. Her figure was praised for being realistic and attainable when she appeared in SI Swim.

She is aware that some fans might be critical of her weight loss. She explains, “I don’t want people to feel like I didn’t love my body before,” and “I just wanted to be physically superior to what I was before.”

And the advantages go far beyond her looks. She continues, “I feel a lot better now,” “I hope that people can understand and appreciate that because I didn’t realize that at the time, either. It was eye-opening for me.”

“I preach this idea of body normalcy and body positivity and that you don’t have to look a certain way, shape, or whatever in order to feel or look good. And I still 100% stand by that. But now that I’m in this place, I move through daily life easier, and I just function better. Like even in my brain — I have clear thinking. It’s just really improved my life as a whole, and I didn’t think it would.”

According to Mariduena, altering her diet was the most challenging part of losing weight. “I’m the self-proclaimed pasta queen,” she says. “I love good food, and a lot of times, food that tastes amazing isn’t necessarily the most amazing for you.”

But she eventually grew accustomed to change. “I definitely still had moments when I indulged, but I just found the balance in that.” She would concentrate on her work, exercise, and maintain her routine and weekly schedule. Then, on the weekends, she would eat whatever she wanted if she wanted to go out to dinner with her pals. “It’s about moderation.”
