Greg Abbott Daughter: Gregory Wayne Abbott is an American politician, lawyer, and former judge born on November 13, 1957. He has been the 48th governor of Texas since 2015. He was a Republican and was the 50th attorney general of Texas from 2002 to 2015. From 1996 to 2001, he was a judge on the Texas Supreme Court.

Since Reconstruction, Abbott was the third Republican to be attorney general of Texas. In 2002, he was elected with 57% of the vote. In 2006 and 2010, he was re-elected with 60% and 64% of the vote, making him the longest-serving attorney general in Texas history with 12 years of work.

Abbott was a Texas Supreme Court justice before becoming attorney general. He was put in that position by George W. Bush governor. With 60% of the vote in 1998, Abbott won a full term. As attorney general, he fought successfully for the Ten Commandments to be put up in the Texas State Capitol in the 2005 U.S. Supreme Court case Van Orden v. Perry.

However, he could not defend the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. He sued the Barack Obama administration many times, trying to get the Affordable Care Act and the administration’s rules about the environment thrown out.

Abbott is the first governor of Texas to use a wheelchair. He was elected in 2014. He is the third governor of a U.S. state to use a wheelchair. As governor, Abbott supported Donald Trump’s administration and pushed for a conservative agenda.

This included measures against abortion like the Texas Heartbeat Act, lenient gun laws, opposition to illegal immigration, support for law enforcement funding, and election reform.

After a winter storm in February 2021 caused a power outage, Abbott called for changes to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). He signed a bill that required power plants to be made weatherproof.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Texas, Abbott fought against laws that required people to wear face masks and get vaccines. He also stopped local governments, businesses, and other groups from making laws.

Abbott was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on November 13, 1957. He is of English ancestry. His mother, Doris Lechristia Jacks Abbott, was a housewife, and his father, Calvin Rodger Abbott, worked as a stockbroker and insurance agent.

They moved to Longview when he was six years old. They lived there for six years. Abbott’s family moved to Duncanville when he was 12 years old. His father died of a heart attack when he was a sophomore in high school.

His mother went to work in a real estate office. Abbott went to Duncanville High School, where he was on the track team in the National Honor Society and voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” Abbott got a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981.

While there, he joined the Young Republicans Club and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. While he was at UT Austin, he met his wife, Cecilia Phalen. In 1984, he went to Vanderbilt University Law School and got his Juris Doctor degree. Abbott left the government and went into private practice. From 1984 to 1992, he worked for Butler and Binion, LLP.

Abbott got hurt in 1984 while he was jogging. It was a freak accident. He was 26 years old and had just finished law school when a big oak tree broke and fell on his back. He was paralyzed from the waist down after the accident.
