The latest installment of The Conjuring Universe is on its way to theaters, and horror fans can’t wait to discover what nightmare the demon Valak has in store for them next.
The Nun II, part of horror hero James Wan’s dark world, has been long awaited, and five years after the release of the first The Nun picture, people are eager to know where the devil will haunt next.
The first Nun film followed Sister Irene and Father Burke as they investigated a nun’s death at Saint Cartha’s monastery in Romania. Within the Abbey’s walls, things weren’t as they seemed, and Sister Irene faced up against the devil who had escaped exile by possessing innocent delivery man Maurice.

It was revealed in the fall of 2022 that the picture will have a theatrical release date of September 8, 2023.

Filming took place from October 2022 to January 2023, and despite some recent Warner Bros. release date changes, the horror sequel has remained as an early Halloween gift for fans.
The Nun 2 Trailer
On July 6, 2023, Warner Bros. published the official trailer for The Nun II. The trailer will also be shown before screenings of Insidious: The Last Key.
The clip suggests that the sequel to the Conjuring spin-off would be filled with scares and will tell a new story about the demonic nun Valak. In early June 2023, a teaser trailer was presented exclusively in theaters in front of select screenings of The Boogeyman. On August 7, a new teaser for The Nun II was released, which you can see below:

Who Is in the Cast of The Nun II?
Bonnie Aarons will return as Valak, the evil Nun that haunts the world of The Conjuring. Aarons initially appeared in The Conjuring 2 as the evil nun who begins haunting the Warrens. Aarons has played a number of horrific characters in David Lynch’s 1999 movie Mulholland Drive, including various demons, a vampire, and a filth-covered living nightmare. Aarons has stated that she enjoys her parts, which is evident in her devotion to her horrific characters.
Taissa Farmiga will reprise her role as Sister Irene in October 2022, it was confirmed. Sister Irene faced the strong demon Valek at Saint Cartha’s monastery in The Nun, banishing the evil spirit… or so she thought. Sister Irene will have to confront the devil once more, as Valak appears to have followed her and Maurice to France.

Farmiga’s first acknowledged acting job was in the drama film Higher Ground in 2011, when she played the younger version of her sister’s character Corinne Walker. Jonas Bloquet has stated that he would reprise his role as French delivery man Maurice, popularly known as Frenchie. Bloquet’s character declares at the end of The Nun, after becoming possessed by the devil, that he is returning to his father’s tomato farm in France, where the following film takes place.
Bloquet has since been in a variety of French films and television series, as well as the 2022 Netflix horror series 1899, in which he and other tourists must solve a terrible enigma aboard a ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
Marcella, a new character rumored to be a schoolteacher at St. Mary’s School in France, will be played by Anna Popplewell. Popplewell is most known for playing Susan Pevensie, the older sister in the Chronicles of Narnia film series. Popplewell most recently starred in the 2022 time-bending thriller The Gallery and is presently working on the next epic romance picture Fairytale.
Sophie, the daughter of Popplewell’s schoolteacher role, will be played by young actress Katelyn Rose Downey. Downey will play Violet in the 2022 Hulu original film The Princess, making this her third credited acting job. In the upcoming crime series Clean Sweep, she will play Caitlin Mohan, the daughter of a detective, in May 2023.
Storm Reid is expected to appear as a fellow Nun-in-training who lends a touch of funk to the somber plot. Reid is most known for playing Meg in the 2018 Disney picture A Wrinkle in Time.
Reid was most recently seen in The Last of Us as Riley Abel, Ellie Williams’ best friend and love interest, but fans of the adolescent drama series Euphoria will recognize her as Gia Bennett, Rue’s sweet and compassionate younger sister.

On October 12, 2022, James Wan posted on Instagram a picture of a priest somewhere with elaborate white walls, confirming that filming for the sequel has officially commenced. Later that year, filming was completed.

Who Is Making The Nun II?
The second Nun film will be directed by Michael Chaves, who will return to The Conjuring franchise. Chaves debuted as a member of the franchise when he directed The Curse of La Llorona, which Wan produced. They then worked together again when Chaves directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, bringing a new level of immersive darkness with horrifying imagery suggesting demonic possession.
The story and screenplay for The Nun II were written by Akela Cooper. Cooper was most recently recognized for her work on the 2023 horror thriller M3GAN. She previously collaborated with James Wan on his smash track Malignant.
Cooper has spent much of her career in the horror genre, with past productions including Grimm and American Horror Story. She has, however, dabbled in the world of superheroes, having written episodes for Luke Cage, Jupiter’s Legacy, and Avengers Assemble.
Screenwriters Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, who previously collaborated on the horror and horror-adjacent movies The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Eli, Fear The Walking Dead, and Dead Summer, are working alongside Cooper.
