James Corley Dies: James Buster Corley, who along with Dan Carney created Dave & Buster’s brand of themed eateries, has died at the age of 72. According to WFAA, an ABC station in Dallas, he was discovered dead there on Monday. Corley “apparently self-inflicted a gunshot wound” that ultimately proved fatal.
In 1982, he and David Corriveau established the first Dave & Buster restaurant in Dallas. They were neighbors in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Buster managed a restaurant and Dave ran an arcade.

Co-founder of the successful restaurant and entertainment complex Dave & Buster’s, James “Buster” Corley, has passed away. He was 72. According to a statement released by Dave & Busters, Corley was an “innovative and creative force” before his untimely passing.
According to the company’s statement, “his pioneering attitude and unshakable belief that ‘everyone is somebody’ created the groundwork for providing food and games to millions of Dave & Buster’s visitors over the past 40 years.”

On Monday, a guy with the same name was discovered at a home with a “possible self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to the Dallas Police Department. The police said in a statement that he was transferred to a hospital but later died there.

In a statement to CNN station WFAA-TV, his daughter Kate Corley announced her father’s death. She explained, “Buster Corley suffered a stroke four months ago, severely damaging the area of his brain responsible for speech and personality.” This is a difficult moment for the family, and they ask that their privacy be respected.
Corley, before opening the first Dave & Buster’s in Dallas in 1982, ran a restaurant known for its “tasty meals and cheerful service” in the late 1970s. David Corriveau, who ran a business in the area, supposedly ran an “outrageous venue for entertainment and games.”

The businessmen saw a demand for both arcades and restaurants, so they joined together to open the first Dave & Buster in Dallas. The company’s record indicates that Dave’s name appears first because he flipped a coin. They ran the company together as co-CEOs for a while before selling it to a private equity firm in 2007.
In 2015, at the age of 63, Corriveau passed away. A publicly traded corporation since 2014, Dave & Buster’s now boasts 150 locations across the United States. The formula of the franchise is called “Eat Drink Play and Watch,” and it includes a kitchen, a bar, and arcade games.
