Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson, as YG, was born in Compton, California, in 1990. He had a rough childhood since at the age of 16, he joined the Bloods gang. In the meantime, his father was serving time for tax fraud.
In 2010, Jackson, then 20 years old, released his first song, “Toot It and Boot It.” The song, which also included Ty Dolla Sign, peaked at number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Jackson a lot of praise.
He joined Def Jam Recordings as a result, and put out mixtapes like “The Real 4Fingaz,” “Just Re’d Up,” and “4 Hunnid Degreez.”

Controversies and Legal Trouble
Over the course of his career, Jackson has run into numerous disputes and legal issues.
He received a lot of flak in 2016 for his song “Meet the Flockers,” which had lyrics that the Asian-American community felt were discriminatory.
The music attracted significant attention when Asian-American residents were increasingly divided across numerous US cities.
Jackson was taken into custody on robbery-related accusations in January 2020 at his residence. He was arrested just hours before he was supposed to perform as part of a Nipsey Hussle tribute at the Grammys.
Although no explanation for the arrest was provided, authorities were at this time looking into a claim that the rapper’s Escalade was somehow connected to a fatal shooting that had taken place in Compton months previously.
A YG-registered Cadillac Escalade is said to have been involved in a police chase on the evening of July 3, 2019. Someone from the SUV started firing a gun during the pursuit. A bullet fired during the pursuit hit a 65-year-old uninvolved spectator.

Finally, that person passed away. YG stated that he was miles away at the time of the shooting at a Hollywood recording studio and had nothing to do with the incident. On Twitter, YG asserted:
“I was nowhere near the scene of this incident, I was in Hollywood recording in the studio all day. I was there until after midnight on the 4th of July and didn’t learn of these events until after they happened!”
Does YG Own Any Real Estate?
For a while, Tyler Perry’s Hollywood Hills mansion was being rented by YG. This house was raided without YG being there a few weeks after the shooting on July 3. A resident was detained on a weapons-related offense.
He purchased a sizable mansion in Chatsworth, California, in May 2019 for slightly under $3 million. In January 2020, YG was detained at this residence.
