The Alex Murdaugh trial is becoming increasingly complicated, with questions being raised about friend and former lawyer Cory Fleming’s participation in the case.

Cory Fleming, an Alex Murdaugh co-conspirator, will face a maximum combined jail sentence of 13 years and 10 months, not 20 years as widely reported following Fleming’s sentencing hearing on September 14.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s office revealed Monday that its initial calculation of Cory Fleming’s combined state prison term was incorrect, blaming the error on uncertainty caused by Judge Clifton Newman’s sentencing order last Thursday.
The uncertainty stemmed from Judge Newman’s decision to sentence Fleming to ten years in prison for the principal allegation of breach of trust over $10,000 in the case of mother Pamela Pinckney, from whom Fleming stole money while serving as her lawyer.

Cory Fleming Faces 20-Year State Prison Sentence for Financial Crimes
The South Carolina Supreme Court suspended Fleming’s law license on October 8, 2021. Later, he was charged in relation to Alex Murdaugh’s embezzlement of client settlement cash.
According to the charging papers, Fleming assisted Alex Murdaugh in pocketing settlement funds intended for the family of Alex Murdaugh’s maid who died in 2018.
Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaugh home’s housekeeper, died in an alleged accident on February 26, 2018. Satterfield’s estate, Fleming, and the insurance carrier involved in the action eventually negotiated an agreement.
The Satterfield family’s attorneys, Eric Bland and Ronnie Richter, published a statement in October 2021, before Fleming was suspended.
“Mr. Fleming and his firm agreed that the Estate will be paid back all legal fees and expenses Mr. Fleming and his law firm received from the $4,300,000 they recovered for the Estate in connection with the claims asserted against Alex Murdaugh for the death of Gloria Satterfield,” the statement read.
Mr. Fleming took the initiative and did the right thing for the Estate. Mr. Fleming and his law company argue that they, too, were victims of Alex Murdaugh’s deceptive ploy.

During the interview, Owen urges Murdaugh to “recall everything that happened on the day Paul and Maggie were murdered.
In another tweet, Butler wrote: “Alex told agent Owen that he, Paul and Maggie had dinner together the night of the murders. When Owen asked about Paul and Maggie being at the kennels, Alex told them, “I don’t know how that went. I stayed on the couch and I dozed off.”

In one segment from the interview, which has been viewed over 10,000 times on social media, Fleming and agent Owen address why much material had not yet been provided to the press.
