Jeff Saturday Has Lost More Than 50 Pounds Since Leaving the NFL

However, it isn’t just a health risk for former footballers. Everyone can relate to the experience of grabbing a quick bite at the airport or train station on the way home from work. This includes travelers, businesspeople, and the rest of us regular folks who spend our days in an office.

More than 50 pounds have fallen off Saturday’s frame since he retired, reducing his weight to a healthy 230. Although details of Jeff Saturday’s weight loss regimen and routine are scant, it may be assumed that he lost most of his weight by eating 7,000 to 10,000 fewer calories daily.

Jeff Saturday Early years

Saturday is a native Atlantan. In 1993, he was a student at Decatur, Georgia’s Shamrock High School. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2012, Saturday’s high school coach Ron Gartrell said, “Eighty percent of our offense was behind Jeff. On defense, we put Jeff on one side and all our other good players on the other because teams ran away from Jeff.”

Gartrell, however, was unable to convince schools in the Southeastern Conference of Saturday’s talents. His acquaintance with UNC’s then-defensive coordinator Carl Torbush helped Gartrell get a scholarship offer from the school.

Jeff Saturday College Career

Saturday attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on an athletic scholarship and played football for coach Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels from 1994 to 1997. As a junior and a senior, he was a Tar Heels team captain in 1996 and 1997. In 1996 and 1997, he was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s (ACC) first team as a center, and in 1997, he was named to the conference’s Academic All-ACC team.

Nate Hobgood-Chittick, Saturday’s college roommate and a defensive tackle who went on to play for four seasons in the NFL, recalled, “Jeff kicked our asses all over the practice field.” Hobgood-Chittick said, “I could count on one hand the number of times I beat him in a one-on-one drill, and if it happened, I celebrated.”

Saturday, an NFLPA’s Executive Committee member, was instrumental in securing the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the NFL and NFLPA. He and his wife, Karen, are the proud parents of three children: Jeffrey Douglas Saturday, Savannah Faith Saturday, and Joshua Bryant Saturday. Saturday took over as head coach of the Hebron Christian Academy football team in Dacula, Georgia, on January 20, 2017.
