She is among a select few individuals to have received at least one nomination for an Academy Award, a Grammy, a Tony, and an Emmy. In 1999, Parton was officially inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. She was put forward for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was the fourth of twelve children born to their parents in 1946 in Sevier County, Tennessee. A tobacco farmer, her dad was. Later, she would say that her family was so impoverished that her father gave the doctor who helped deliver her a bag of oatmeal as payment.

She was always quite musical and sang in church choirs at a young age. When Parton was nine years old, she was already performing on The Cas Walker Show and was signed by the little Louisiana company Goldband Records.

After Dolly completed her high school education in 1964, she immediately relocated to Nashville. She rapidly rose to prominence as a songwriter. Her uncle Bill Owens co-wrote many of her hit hits.

Robert and Avie Lee Parton had 12 children, of which Dolly is one. In Sevier County, Tennessee, close to the Smoky Mountains, the family made do with very little during their upbringing. In their little cabin, six people shared each bed.

Cassie Parton

Rachel Parton

Since none of them has worked in show business, little is known about them. One of Dolly’s brothers was once called a “carpenter” by Dolly.

Larry Parton

Larry, who was the ninth child, was Dolly’s last brother. He came into the world on July 6, 1955. He was only born four days before he died.
