Ashli Babbitts Mother Arrested During Jan. 6 Demonstration!

Ashli Babbitts Mother Arrested: The mother of Ashli Babbitt, who was killed when police shot her in the U.S. Capitol during the riot on January 6, 2021, was arrested in Washington on Friday after she refused to leave the street during a protest marking the second anniversary.

In a statement sent by email, Capitol Police said that Micki Witthoeft, who is 58 years old, was accused of breaking traffic laws. Police said she was let go Friday afternoon and given the notice to go to court later.

Witthoeft and others were walking on a street near the Capitol when police told them to get out of the road. The police had formed a line to stop them from going any further. In a video shared on social media, the police tell the group of people several times to move to the sidewalk, or they will be arrested.

Then Witthoeft turned around with her hands behind her back, and she was arrested. Police say that the group was not permitted to protest on Capitol grounds. Babbitt, who was 35 years old, was killed when he tried to climb through a broken window in a locked door that led to the Speaker’s Lobby inside the Capitol.

Police were getting members of Congress away from the crowd that believed then-President Donald Trump’s false claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said that the Capitol police officer who shot her did nothing wrong because he was protecting himself and other members of Congress. The Capitol Police also cleared the officer.

On Friday, it was hard to find out how to get in touch with Witthoeft, and it wasn’t clear if she had a lawyer who could speak for her. At a number listed for Babbitt’s brother, a message was left.
