Another Journalist Dies In Qatar: According to local reports, a Qatari photographer covering the World Cup in Qatar has been killed, making the total number of journalists killed at the tournament two. On Friday, American sports journalist Grant Wahl was the first.
On Saturday, the Qatari news agency Gulf News claimed Khalid al-Misslam had passed away, citing his former employer, the Qatari television news station Al Kass TV. Not much is known about al-death; Misslam and the Qatari Ministry of Health did not respond to requests for information before this article went to press.
Gulf News reports that al-Misslam “suddenly, while covering the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.” In addition, the publication expressed its “deepest condolences to his family” and its faith in “Allah’s kindness and forgiveness for him.”
His passing follows that of Wahl, whose passing was confirmed on Friday by the United States Soccer Federation. Eric Wahl, Wahl’s brother, told reporters that Wahl passed away on the way to the hospital after fainting during coverage of the Netherlands-Argentina game on Friday.
The specifics of Wahl’s passing remain unknown. After intensive effort, he was diagnosed with likely bronchitis on December 6 and wrote about it on his blog. In the years since Grant’s brother has claimed that the Qatari government jailed him because he wore a rainbow-colored T-shirt to show his support for gay rights and that he was the target of death threats.

Eric claimed he “no longer,” thought bronchitis was the cause of his brother’s death. He said late on Sunday that an autopsy would be conducted in the United States, and the family would issue an “appropriate statement” afterward.
The Guardian stated that on the same night that Wahl died, a security guard was seriously hurt after falling from what an onlooker described as a “substantial height” at the Lusoil Stadium, located to the north of Doha.
