Season 11 of American Horror Story is in the works, and who would have believed that the show that introduced us to “cranking” would still be going strong over a decade later?
That is a point of contention. Season ten got off to a great start with Red Tide, but Death Valley left us down with the kind of plotting you’d expect from Ryan Murphy’s hit-or-miss offshoot American Horror Stories.
That isn’t to say that we should write American Horror Story off just yet. FX renewed Murphy’s flagship show for three more seasons in January 2020, bringing the total number of seasons to at least 13.
“Ryan and Brad [Fulchuk] are the unquestioned kings of the game,” FX chairman John Landgraf remarked at the time.
But where does this fantastic freak show go from here? Will season 11 of American Horror Story return to its roots, or will the showrunners continue to experiment with the format?
Is there a possibility of another crossover? Lord Satan knows the world would be a better place if Jessica Lange came back to reprise one of her most iconic performances at least once more…

American Horror Story season 11: What’s the potential release date?
Unfortunately, there is currently no official date for the return of American Horror Story as of May 2022. But, unlike many other series, there appears to be a very good ground for predicting when it will return to our screens.
While the inner-show history of American Horror Story is a jumble, the series’ on-air release schedule has stayed fairly consistent throughout its decade-long run. Until season nine, each year a new story debuted around September or October, with the scary (or occasionally just plain confusing) finale airing just before Christmas.
However, due to COVID-related delays, 2020 was completely skipped, but the show kept its consistency and returned in October 2021 for season 10.

Regulars like Evan Peters and Jessica Lange have bowed out of American Horror Story after multiple appearances throughout the years. Sarah Paulson, who is frequently a prominent member of the group, is currently the most powerful cast member remaining.

However, she suggested in an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Life (via E! Online) that season ten might be her last.
“It’s the first time in three years that I’m not sure. I believe this is my final season of American Horror Story. I mean, I’m not sure “she stated “‘Yes! Let’s do it!’ I usually say when he comes to me with some whack-a-doodle-doodle character. But I’m not sure.”

Expect to see more of newer fan favorites like Angelica Ross, Leslie Grossman, Cody Fern, and Billie Lourd as the old guard moves on to other things they do make an appearance in Season 11, it’s unlikely that Finn Wittrock will join them, given he’s currently filming a new HBO Max show as Green Lantern.
OG actor Taissa Farmiga – nicknamed Violet – spoke with Digital Spy about the prospect of a comeback appearance in season 11:
“It’s a difficult question to answer because American Horror Story is such an integral part of my identity. I portrayed Violet when I was 17 and just starting in the acting world, trying to figure out who I was. So whenever Horror Story is mentioned, it’s like, ‘Ah, it reminds me of home.’
“It’s almost as if it’s a matter of time. I know there were previous discussions, but I was filming this, and Covid, and traveling, and all of these processes at the time.
American Horror Story season 11: What will the plot be about?
One thing we do know is that, unlike season 10, American Horror Story will not reprise its two-half-season approach, opting instead for a more tried-and-true setup for season 11. It’ll be a single story with flashbacks to explain the plot.
According to John Landgraf, who spoke to The Wrap, “What I can tell you is that Season 11 is based on a single tale. It takes place in multiple timelines, but it’s all about the same thing: one subject, one story, with a beginning, middle, and finish, much like many of the previous stories.”
However, the cunning creative team behind American Horror Story, led by series creator Ryan Murphy, is notoriously tight-lipped about each season’s theme.
However, in April 2021 he opened things up to the fandom to see what they hope to see moving forward.
Murphy polled followers on a range of potential themes, including Aliens, Christmas Horror, Bloody Mary, Piggy Man, Sirens, and Plague, in a now-deleted Twitter poll. Aliens were, after all, a significant part of season ten, so we don’t expect them to return anytime soon. But what about the other possibilities?

Ryan used the words “Expanding the Universe” in his original tweet, implying that this has nothing to do with season 11. But for the time being, this is all we have.
Sirens and Bloody Mary were the final two choices, and they were the most popular. The only issue is that Ryan never stated which option received the most votes or, more importantly, if these results were accurate.

Sorry, no new footage yet, and our powers of foresight aren’t strong enough to show what fresh footage will look like until we destroy the current Supreme and ascend to our rightful place as coven leader.
Having said that, we wouldn’t be surprised if we get our first look at American Horror Story season 11 before the end of Summer 2022, if not sooner.
